SWFL Wine Auction & Food Fest 2010, Miromar Lakes, Florida
SWFL Wine & Food Fest 2010 was Lee County’s most successful fundraising event and one of the largest wine auctions in the United States. The event organizers rely on the live and silent auctions to bring in the majority of the funds. The trustees take care of the event’s operating expenses and look to the auction to generate the funds that will go 100% to the charities they serve.
In 2009, the event netted $752,000 which was up 270% from the prior year. And then we continued to raise the bar in 2010 with a record $932,000 in net proceeds. All this in a down economy and during one of the worst rain storms all season.
Scott Robertson - Auctioneer
Scott Robertson is a familiar face for past SWFL Wine Fest attendees and others who attend local charity fundraising auctions. His love for auctions began when he was seven and attended his first estate sale. “I waited all day to bid on an item I wanted for 25 cents,” Robertson says. “No one dared bid against a child with that kind of patience. It was on this day that I realized well-run auctions are fun and exciting. I was instantly hooked.”
In 1992, he attended professional auction training and has been a regular on the Southwest Florida circuit ever since. While he has sold all types of items including real estate, thoroughbred horses and antiques, he now specializes in fundraising auctions and can be heard taking bids to benefit charities like Goodwill Industries at their Annual Tux and Trees Event, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure at events like Snook Bight’s “All Aboard Against Breast Cancer” Festival and many others.
Robertson enjoys the SWFL Wine Fest auction because he “has seen firsthand the great work The Children’s Hospital and Edison State College do for the Fort Myers community.” Robertson also appreciates the way the SWFL Wine Fest trustees have added new life to what was already a great event. “The trustees do a remarkable job of working hard to ensure the success of this great event,” he says.
Robertson has a busy professional life aside from auctioneering. A Fort Myers resident since 1984, he first worked as a teacher and coach for Lee County School District. In 1998, he joined Gary Tasman at Commercial Properties Southwest Florida where he specializes in leasing and all aspects of commercial sales.
